Choose two or three nearby backgrounds, then allow time to walk between them. Tell your photographer if you need a step-free route, regular sitting breaks, a quieter setting or space to change privately. Those details should shape the plan from the beginning.
Plan the light around the place
The period before sunset can bring softer light, but tree cover, buildings and gate times affect what is possible. Woodland can become dark earlier; a hilltop can be windy. A golden-hour plan works best when it includes the route and an agreed weather decision.

Outfits, nerves and a little breathing space
Wear something that feels like you
A sari, lehenga, sherwani, dress, suit or casual outfit can all work. Coordinate the colours without feeling you must match. Think about the length of the walk and whether a long hem, train or formal shoe will be comfortable on the chosen surface.
If you want a second look, agree the changing space and time in advance. Avoid building a session around several outfit changes if you would rather spend that time enjoying the photographs.
You do not need to practise posing
Tell us what makes you nervous. We can start with walking and simple conversation, then guide your position when it helps. If one of you enjoys the camera more than the other, we can work at a pace that suits both of you.

Do we need permission for a pre-wedding photoshoot?
Requirements vary by landowner and by how the images will be used. Describe the session, group size, equipment and any promotional use when you enquire. The Botanical Gardens publishes a dedicated permit process, while National Trust wedding and engagement requests start with the property team.
What does a location cost?
Keep the photographer’s fee separate from permits, admission, parking, travel and styling. Some places have a published photoshoot charge; others quote for your plans. Use the official links in this guide and get the total confirmed before paying for outfits or travel.
What if it rains?
Agree the weather decision and any rescheduling terms before the shoot. A covered location must be booked and suitable for photography; it is not enough to assume a nearby building will let you in. Light showers may work with an umbrella if you are comfortable, while high winds or unsafe conditions call for a different plan.
Can we wear traditional outfits or change during the shoot?
Yes, plan the route around your chosen clothes, footwear and privacy needs. Agree outfit changes and a suitable changing space with your photographer and the location. Public toilets, a car or a glasshouse should not be assumed to provide that space.
What if one of us feels camera-shy?
