Birmingham & West Midlands
The most useful thing a pre-wedding shoot does has nothing to do with the photographs. It is the two hours where you find out what it is like to be photographed by us — before the day that cannot be repeated.
Most couples have never been professionally photographed together. On the wedding morning that inexperience shows: stiff shoulders, hands that do not know where to go, and a constant awareness of the camera. Couples who have done a pre-wedding shoot arrive already past that.

Where
Where we shoot pre-wedding sessions in Birmingham
The location matters less than the light, but these are the Birmingham and West Midlands locations we return to and why:
- Birmingham Botanical Gardens — glasshouses for weather-proof colour, and gardens that change completely between seasons. Needs booking and a fee.
- The Jewellery Quarter — brick, ironwork and narrow streets. Best in the hour before sunset when the light comes down the streets rather than onto them.
- Canal network and Brindleyplace — water, bridges and reflections, and genuinely good at dusk once the lights come on.
- Sutton Park — open heath and woodland, and the easiest option if you want space and no passers-by.
- Clent Hills and the Lickeys — height and long views, worth the short drive for sunset.
- Your own home — underrated, and the right answer for couples who hate the idea of being photographed in public.
We will suggest locations based on what you actually like doing, not on what photographs well for our portfolio.
Practical
What to expect from the session
Timing
We shoot in the ninety minutes before sunset wherever possible. Midday sun is the hardest light to work in and the least flattering. In a Birmingham winter that means an afternoon start; in June it can mean 8pm.
How long
Around two hours, covering one or two locations. Longer than that and most couples stop enjoying it, which shows.
What to wear
Two outfits is plenty. One you feel yourselves in, one more formal if you want the contrast. Traditional dress photographs beautifully and we shoot a lot of it — lehenga, sari, sherwani and salwar kameez all work, particularly against the Botanical Gardens glasshouses or at golden hour.
How we direct
We do not pose you into shapes. We give you something to do — walk, talk, react to each other — and photograph what happens. Couples who describe themselves as awkward usually settle within twenty minutes.
What you get
Edited images delivered digitally. Couples commonly use them for save-the-dates, invitations, a wedding-day welcome board or a guest book.
Worth knowing
Pre-wedding, engagement or Roka?
These terms get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing.
A pre-wedding shoot is a planned session with you both, usually a few months before the wedding. An engagement shoot is the same thing by another name. A Roka or Mangni is an actual ceremony with family present, and is covered as event photography rather than a couple session — it needs different planning and usually more hours.
If you are not sure which you need, tell us what is happening and who will be there, and we will tell you which it is.
