Multigenerational Birmingham family portrait photographed in golden afternoon light at Cannon Hill Park
A Letter From The Studio

Portraits That Feel Like Who You Actually Are

Every autumn, the same message arrives in our Edgbaston inbox. A mother has finally persuaded the grandparents to visit from Punjab, Lagos, or Gujarat. The cousins are in town for half-term. Everyone is, for once, in the same postcode at the same time — and she wants one beautiful photograph of them all, before the week slips away. If that is you, you are in the right place.

Ikonic Media Solutions has photographed Birmingham families for over two decades — from Harborne newborns on their first autumn walk, to four-generation gatherings at Winterbourne, to Sikh families marking milestone birthdays in the Jewellery Quarter. We are not a high-street chain. We are a small, award-winning Birmingham studio with a very specific belief: that the best family portraits are not performed. They are witnessed.

Our sessions are unhurried. There are no green screens, no stiff “everyone say cheese”, no forced formality. Just your family, photographed in the parks, gardens, and streets of the city you live in — by a photographer who has been doing exactly this, in exactly this city, since 2005.

The Ikonic Experience

What Every Session Quietly Includes

Booking a family photoshoot with us is not transactional. From the first phone call to the final printed album landing on your doorstep in Solihull or Sutton Coldfield, every step is considered.

01

Pre-Shoot Style Consultation

A 30-minute call — often over WhatsApp — to talk through your family, your location, outfits, and the kind of images you actually want on your wall. We send a bespoke styling guide tailored to Birmingham’s light and seasons.

02

A Local, Handpicked Location

We don’t shoot in the same field as every other photographer. Whether it’s the rose gardens at Winterbourne House, the meadow paths at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, or the cobbled alleys of the Jewellery Quarter — the location is chosen for your family, not the diary.

03

Two Lenses. Two Hands.

Every session is photographed by a lead photographer using a Nikon Z series full-frame body with a prime portrait lens and a secondary documentary lens — capturing both the arranged portraits and the fleeting, unscripted in-between moments.

04

Child-Led, Grandparent-Friendly

We’ve photographed families with toddlers who refuse to stand still and with grandparents who cannot stand for long. Every session is paced for the youngest and the oldest person in the frame — not for the camera.

05

Hand-Edited, Never Outsourced

Every image is colour-graded and retouched in-house in our Birmingham studio. No overseas editors, no AI presets. A cinematic, film-inspired edit — warm, filmic, and built to print beautifully in large format.

06

Delivery in 10 Working Days

Your private online gallery arrives within 10 working days — faster than any high-street studio in the West Midlands. Printed albums and fine-art wall pieces follow within four to six weeks, hand-assembled in the UK.

The Birmingham Difference

We Know The City’s Best Hour, Best Corner

Birmingham’s light is not like London’s. Our winter sun is low and soft by 2pm; our summer golden hour lingers past 8. We’ve photographed families in every season, in every postcode from B1 to B90 — and we know that the Japanese maples at Winterbourne peak in mid-October, that Cannon Hill’s MAC building throws the best warm reflection at 5:17pm in July, and that the car park at Sutton Park fills up by 10am on any sunny Saturday.

When families move from London or Manchester and ask us where to shoot, we send them a map. When grandparents fly in from Nairobi for a week and the weather forecast turns, we reroute to the covered ironwork at St. Pancras Chambers — or a heritage pub in Moseley. Local knowledge is not a marketing phrase for us. It is the single reason our sessions never feel like anyone else’s.

St. Paul’s Square & Cobbled Lanes

Your Own Home & Garden

For many families — especially newborn sessions, Diwali gatherings, or elderly grandparents — your own home is the most honest backdrop. We shoot with available light, leave no equipment marks, and leave your house as we found it.

We had three generations, two photographers to choose from, and one very nervous grandmother who doesn’t speak much English. Diven made her laugh within four minutes. The photographs are now hanging above the fireplace — and my mum cries every time she looks at them.

What Birmingham Families Say

We booked Ikonic for a three-generation photoshoot at Winterbourne Gardens for my parents’ 40th anniversary. Diven managed to photograph my dad — who has never once smiled on camera in 30 years — actually laughing. The album is the best £700 we’ve ever spent.

We have used three different photographers in Birmingham over the years. Ikonic is the only one that understood our family — the grandmother’s sari, the toddler’s tantrum, the uncle who refused to stand next to anyone. They made it feel like a family afternoon, not a photoshoot.

Absolutely stunning work. We did a family shoot in Sutton Park in November — freezing cold, three kids under five, and somehow Diven got every single one of us laughing in the same frame. The editing is cinematic, warm, and genuinely art. Worth every penny.

I found Ikonic through a Mumsnet thread about Birmingham family photographers and I’m so grateful I did. The pre-shoot consultation alone was more thought-out than the entire session I’d had with another studio the year before. Incredible results.

We had an Eid family shoot in our own garden in Moseley — four generations, including my nani visiting from Karachi. Diven brought a quiet respect to the whole session that I honestly didn’t expect. The photographs are heirlooms now.

Photographed our newborn at home in Bournville and then a follow-up family shoot at Cannon Hill Park six months later. Both sessions were calm, professional, and beautifully edited. We will use Ikonic for every family milestone from now on.

Frequently Asked

The Quiet Questions Families Actually Ask

How much does a family photoshoot in Birmingham cost?

Ikonic Media Solutions family photoshoots in Birmingham start at £395 for a one-hour portrait session including 30+ hand-edited images and a private gallery. Our most popular collection, The Heirloom, is £695 and includes a 2-hour session, 60+ images, a printed set, and weekend availability. Half-day multigenerational sessions with heirloom albums start at £1,295. All prices include travel within Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Where is the best place to shoot family photos in Birmingham?

Our five most-requested Birmingham locations are Winterbourne House & Garden (Edgbaston), Cannon Hill Park (Moseley), Birmingham Botanical Gardens (Westbourne Road), Sutton Park (Sutton Coldfield), and the cobbled lanes of the Jewellery Quarter for more editorial sessions. For families who prefer privacy, we also photograph at home — particularly for newborn sessions, Diwali gatherings, and multi-generational visits.

What should we wear for a family photoshoot?

Every booking includes a bespoke styling guide tailored to your location and season. Generally, we recommend a coordinated palette rather than matching outfits — soft neutrals, cream, navy, deep green, burgundy and gold photograph beautifully in Birmingham’s natural light. We ask clients to avoid bright logos and busy patterns. For Asian and multicultural family shoots, we regularly photograph in saris, lehengas, shalwar kameez, and cultural attire — and we know how to light them well.

What happens if it rains on the day of our Birmingham session?

This is Birmingham — we plan for it. Every outdoor session has an agreed indoor backup venue (often Winterbourne’s glasshouses, the Botanical Gardens tropical house, or your own home). If the forecast is genuinely unworkable, we reschedule at no charge within 12 weeks. We have never once refused to deliver a session because of weather.

How long does it take to receive our photographs?

Your private online gallery is delivered within 10 working days of the shoot — one of the fastest turnaround times of any family studio in the West Midlands. Printed albums and framed wall prints are hand-assembled in the UK and arrive within four to six weeks. For The Heirloom collection, we offer priority 7-day gallery delivery.

Do you photograph multigenerational and extended family gatherings?

Yes — multigenerational family portraits are a significant part of our work. We regularly photograph extended families of 15 to 30 people, often coinciding with grandparents visiting from Punjab, Gujarat, Nairobi, Lagos, or Karachi. The Heirloom and The Legacy collections are specifically designed for these larger gatherings, with pacing, group arrangements, and individual moments for every generation in the frame.

Can you do the photoshoot in our own home in Birmingham?

Absolutely. In-home family sessions are one of our most requested services, especially for newborns, Diwali, Eid, Christmas gatherings, and elderly grandparents. We shoot with available natural light, carry minimal equipment, and leave your home exactly as we found it. Available across all Birmingham B postcodes and the wider West Midlands.

Do you photograph Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and multicultural family events?

Yes — we are one of Birmingham’s leading Asian and multicultural family photography studios. Our team has over 20 years of experience photographing Sikh family portraits, Hindu family gatherings (including Diwali and Karva Chauth), Muslim family celebrations (including Eid), and mixed-heritage British-Asian families. We understand the cultural pacing, the outfit changes, and the quiet rituals that high-street studios miss entirely.

How far in advance should we book a family photoshoot?

For autumn sessions — our busiest period, September through November — we recommend booking six to eight weeks in advance. Saturdays and Sundays book first. For weekday sessions and winter in-home shoots, two to three weeks’ notice is usually sufficient. We hold a limited number of last-minute slots for Birmingham families with visiting relatives who land in the city with little notice.

Are you a Birmingham-based photographer or do you travel from elsewhere?

Ikonic Media Solutions is a Birmingham studio, founded in the city in 2005 and based in the B-postcodes ever since. We are not a national chain travelling in for a day. All our photographers live in Birmingham. All our editing happens in Birmingham. And every location we recommend is one we have personally photographed at least a dozen times.
